GENERAL OVERVIEW

Chuck is a nationally recognized design-build custom home builder and remodeler, owner of Chuck Miller Consulting LLC and Chuck Miller Education Services LLC, author of “Plan to Profit: Business Planning for Builders and Remodelers,” and former President and CEO of Chuck Miller Construction Inc.
Chuck is the author of “Plan To Profit: Business Planning for Builders and Remodelers” The residential construction industry is important to the financial health of the nation. However, small businesses in the construction industry have the second highest failure rate of all industries. Chuck is committed to decreasing that failure rate by sharing his knowledge and expertise with other construction industry professionals. 

Chuck Miller Consulting LLC engages in the business of construction consulting, including Business Planning and Coaching, Construction Mediation and Arbitration Services, Construction Project Management for Owner-Builders, Initial Decision Maker services, and Expert Witness Services. Our clients are small volume builders, remodelers, and construction trade contractors; owner-builders undertaking residential or light commercial construction projects; government licensing boards, and attorneys specializing in construction related issues.

Chuck is a Construction Disputes Resolution Services trained construction mediator, arbitrator, and dispute resolution board member and an Associate Member of the American Bar Association.

Miller Consulting’s clients include the Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses Contractors Board.  From November 2010 through June 2022, Chuck has reviewed five hundred seventy-two (572) consumer complaints against contractors and rendered his written professional opinion on the quality of the contractor’s workmanship and compliance with Idaho building codes, statutes, rules and code of ethics governing construction in the state.

Chuck Miller Education Services LLC engages in the business of providing professional education services with a focus on Builder, Remodeler and Realtor education.   Chuck Miller Education Services is a licensed provider of National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) professional education courses and Chuck Miller is an NAHB Instructor. Chuck is also a Jack Canfield’s Success Principles trainer.

Chuck Miller Construction Inc. was a nationally-recognized design-build residential and commercial builder/remodeler. Chuck Miller Construction Inc. I was a member of Joe Lstiburek’s Building Science Consortium Team under the original Building America Program, a 100% Energy Star Partner, and a PATH Partner. Chuck participated in an advisory capacity at the initial meeting and on working groups to develop the U.S. Department of Energy’ National Building America Challenge Voluntary Home Energy Performance Initiative and was an initial member of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Builders Challenge which kicked-off at the 2008 IBS. He was a subject matter expert on the original NAHB “Green Building for Building Professionals” course and an approved instructor of that course.

As President and CEO of Chuck Miller Construction Inc., Chuck was responsible for general `management, accounting, marketing, estimating, budgeting and cost control, scheduling, trade contract administration, purchasing, client contract preparation and administration, customer relations, and oversight of construction.

Chuck began his construction career in 1968 as an apprentice carpenter. He became a journeyman carpenter in 1972, worked his way through college, and graduated from Western Illinois University where he majored in Construction Technology and minored in accounting, business management, and real estate. He has been involved in the design and construction of single and multi-family residential, commercial, and institutional projects across the United States.

After graduating, Chuck worked for three (3) large construction companies. He was a Site Engineer, Quality Control Representative, and Superintendent for Carney General Contractors, a general contractor specializing in government projects. He was responsible for onsite contract administration, payroll, cost control, quality assurance inspections, scheduling, and on-site supervision on a number of projects. From 1975 to 1985, he was a Project Engineer for Morrison-Knudsen Company, Inc. (M-K), an international general contractor. He was responsible for contract administration, estimating, subcontract administration, purchasing, budgeting and cost control, change order management, and scheduling on a number of projects including military housing, the Day lodge at Timberline on Mount Hood, Oregon, a medium security prison, and the rehabilitation mid and high-rise apartment building in the largest cooperative housing development in the world. From 1985 to 1990, he was also a Project Engineer for Hunt Building Corporation, the largest design-build builder of military housing projects in the United States. He was responsible for contract administration, subcontract administration, purchasing, budgeting and cost control, change order management, and scheduling on a number of private apartment complexes and military housing projects. 

Chuck settled in Boise, Idaho in 1991 where he managed several building companies for other builders and was responsible for general management, development of specifications, estimating, budgeting and cost control, subcontract administration, purchasing, contract preparation and administration, customer relations, scheduling, oversight of field operations, and management of warranty service for multiple custom home and light commercial projects.

He became a member of his local and state home builders’ association and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) in 1990 and has been active since joining. Chuck is a Life Delegate of NAHB having served as a Director for 10 years and will have served a total of 21 years at the end of 2022. He is currently a member of its Business Management and Technology Committee, Education Committee, and Global Opportunities Board, a Build-PAC Trustee, a trustee of the National Sales and Marketing Council, a past Trustee of the NAHB Remodelers Council, and a past Chairman of both the Graduate Remodeler Board of Governors and the Graduate Builder Board of Governors.  Chuck has also served as a member of the Education Working Group from its inception in 2015 through the completion of its work in 2018.  Chuck is also a member of NAHB’s Spike Club – the recruiters of new members to NAHB and has achieved Super Spike status having earned 289 Spike credits.

He is a Past President and Life Director of the Building Contractors Association of Southwestern Idaho, Chairman of its Ethics and Arbitration Committee and Education Committee, and serves on the Builder / Developer Council, the Membership Committee, the Sales and Marketing Council, and its Political Action Committee.

He is a Life Director of the Idaho Building Contractors Association.
He has earned eleven (11) professional designations from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

Chuck’s awards and recognition include:

Chuck’s community service includes building the 2003 St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital “Dream Home” and raising over $750,000 for the hospital.

He serves on the Ada County Building Board of Appeals.

He was a Boise City Public Works Commissioner from 1999 to 2003.

He has presented NAHB’s “Homes of Our Own” programs to teach children, young adults, parents and teachers about home building, environmental issues, and careers in home building industries.

Finally, Chuck was a Reserve Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with Ada County Paramedics and was named 2014 Reserve of the Year and presented with the 2014 Directors’ Award for “Community CPR Outreach”
