DENNIS MARSHALL

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Dennis Marshall was President and Owner of Marshall Building Enterprises, Inc. (MBE), a full service residential and commercial construction company, and has over forty (40) years of building experience throughout Colorado. Mr. Marshall has been involved in every facet of the design/build custom home process, assuring quality construction and cost effectiveness. His knowledge and understanding of the custom home building process, in conformity with building regulations, is rivaled only by his exceptional project management skill. The following is a brief review of Dennis Marshall’s background.

Marshall Building Enterprises, Inc. was a design/build firm, specializing in “on your lot” custom building. Its primary focus was building custom homes, which represented approximately eighty percent (80%) of MBE’s business; the remaining twenty percent (20%) was commercial construction.

During his career Dennis Marshall has been responsible for and has built over 1150 projects including custom homes, semi-custom homes, remodeling projects and commercial construction. Due to the “on your lot” building operation, Mr. Marshall has built in Denver and all seven (7) surrounding counties, as well as several of the ski areas on the western slopes. The twenty percent (20%) commercial construction consisted of constructing warehouses/office projects, office buildings, satellite buildings in shopping centers, as well as tenant finishes. Many projects involved the entire design to build cycle from securing the ground, lot layout, design, and construction through final tenant finish.

Dennis has been an active member of the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver (HBA), the Colorado Association of Home Builders (CAHB) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) since 1968. He achieved the status of “Life Director of the National Association” of Home Builders (NAHB) in 1987 and “Senior Life Director” in 1996. He has received many awards in his professional career. He was twice named “Builder of the Year” – 1978 and 1979 - from the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver (HBA) and was recipient of the “Life Time Achievement Award” in 1995.

Marshall began his career in home building in 1965 when he started Marshall Construction as a framing subcontractor. In 1967 he and three partners formed Vantage Custom Homes, Inc., specializing in custom “on your lot” building. In 1970, Marshall became president of Vantage Custom Homes, Inc. and also created a subsidiary company, Vantage Enterprises, Inc. to branch out and accommodate commercial and multi-family projects. As president and principal stockholder of Vantage Custom Homes and Vantage Enterprises from 1972 through 1983, Marshall spearheaded the successful completion of over 780 building projects.

In 1984, a major Colorado corporation, The Walden Companies, purchased Vantage Custom Homes and all of its subsidiary companies. At that time the Walden Companies had seven (7) major projects beginning and/or underway. Marshall stepped into that corporation as Vice President of Construction and managed all the land development and construction for the Walden Companies. During the next four (4) years, Marshall was responsible for the development of the seven (7) subdivisions, construction of over 560 townhouse and condominium units, three (3) commercial buildings, and approximately a dozen (12) custom homes. In the spring of 1988 Mr. Walden retired and closed the business. Mr. Marshall went back into business for himself under the name of Marshall Building Enterprises for the express purposes of building custom homes and commercial contracting from 1988 until 2009.

Reflective of his reputation in the building industry, in 1992 Mr. Marshall was selected as “the Builder” to perform the remodeling and rehabilitation of the newly acquired Home Builders Association of Metro Denver headquarters located at 1400 South Emerson Street in Denver Colorado. In 2008, Marshall was again selected to perform the remodeling and rehabilitation of their new current 27,000 square foot headquarters office building in Centennial, Colorado.

Beginning in 1996, Mr. Marshall was asked by two (2) attorneys (both Plaintiff and Defendant in this case) to serve as an arbitrator in their construction defect litigation case. Subsequent to completing that case, Marshall was again hired separately by the attorneys as an expert witness in two (2) other cases. This sideline business grew as a result of their recommendations to other attorneys. During the last sixteen (16) years Marshall has been involved in approximately one hundred (100) litigation/arbitration cases, both residential and commercial. He has served on both the Plaintiff’s side and the Defendant’s side. The work generally involves making inspections, writing reports, determining scope of repairs, estimating cost of repairs, and providing expert testimony at depositions and trial or adjudicating at arbitration.

Further, Mr. Marshall has completed formal training through the Construction Dispute Resolution Services Training Institute to serve as mediator and/or arbitrator.
