GENERAL OVERVIEW

Nigel Grout is an experienced and impartial construction professional having spent over 30 years as a practising Quantity Surveyor working exclusively on civil engineering projects. Included 16 years predominantly site based for national and regional UK contractors, before establishing and running successful QS practices from 1991 until 2006. His QS consultancies provided commercial support services for a number of major construction projects including the M25 road widening, London Underground Jubilee Line Extension, Channel Tunnel Rail Link and Patras Ferry Harbour in Greece.

Since 1991, Nigel has specialised in the resolution and avoidance of disputes and contentious issues, and now acts as an independent practitioner in this field. He provides expert opinion and findings on contractual matters and quantum. Formal training and qualifications (DipICArb) in international commercial arbitration, and is a member or listed arbitrator with various international arbitral organisations including LCIA (London), SCC (Stockholm), Swiss Arbitration Association, Danish Arbitration, Mauritius Court of Arbitration and Qatar International Centre for Arbitration. Considerable adjudication experience and has acted as a party representative in a number of UK adjudications, and as a quantum expert in arbitration. Detailed knowledge of international Dispute Boards; and undertaken ICC/DRBF/FIDIC approved training in their practice and procedure, including acting as Chairman or Single Member. Listed as a suitable Dispute Board member by the Dispute Board Federation, Dispute Resolution Board Foundation and Construction Dispute Resolution Services.

Possesses good technical skills, and a sound understanding of contract and construction law. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Trained in mediation.

Particular expertise in ICE, NEC and FIDIC contract conditions, and many bespoke conditions. Extensive experience in highways, structures, water, rail and infrastructure projects.
