GENERAL OVERVIEW

Lori Ryan has been employed in the construction industry for over 16 years.  She has experience in both the residential/commercial building area and air pollution control.  Her expertise has been in estimating, contract administration and project management.

Lori understands that many construction disputes arise from a perceived wrong.  This can happen with the architects, the owners and the subcontractors during any given project.  A strong construction background provides the necessary understanding to sort through any issues and make impartial decisions in regards to disputes.  Her first experience in ADR was a negotiation in the early ‘90’s between a large Power Company and the construction firm she was employed with at the time.  Large amounts of money were in dispute.  Lori prepared all the documentation and successfully negotiated the disputed monies with an outcome benefiting both parties.

Having raised two daughters and one son each actively involved in three sports, mediation became a necessity in regards to attendance at concurrent sporting events.  The perceived injustice a child or adolescent experiences when a parent can not be in two places at one time is no different than any other type of dispute.  Because most disputes grounds are based on perceptions, they can be much more effectively mediated or arbitrated in order to avoid bogging the court system.

Lori has been involved in disputes with owners, architects and sub-contractors over the years as a representative of her employers.  This precipitated her decision to become a construction mediator and arbitrator because she saw that the construction industry is inundated with disputes.
