BERNIE IOCOVANGELO

OVERVIEW

Bernie is the co-founder and President of Faber Builders and its family of businesses. He oversees each company and assists each department with their daily operations. From the excavation of a new home’s basement to marketing and advertising, Bernie has his hand in it all. He has supervised the construction of over 2,800 new homes and town homes. In addition to his general construction knowledge, as an attorney since 1974, he has developed a vast knowledge of the construction law involved in construction disputes.

A graduate of the Aquinas Institute, St. John Fisher College and Stetson University College of Law, he is also extremely active within the Chili community, where he and his wife, Patti, both live. He has been recognized for his business acumen in the Rochester area with the Economic Development Award from the Henrietta Area Council of the Greater Rochester Metro Chamber of Commerce in 1991 and the Business in the Spotlight recognition from the Gates Chamber of Commerce in 2010. He has also received the Unsung Heroes Award from Rochester Mayor William Johnson Jr. in 2002.

A born leader, he has also been a member of the Rochester Homebuilders Association’s Board of Directors for fifteen years, as well as serving as president of the RHBA during some of that time. He has been a member of the Construction Liability Committee with the NAHB since 2016 and was an influential member of the RHBA subcommittee responsible for preparing the New Home Warranty that has been in use since 1989.

During the sixteen years that Bernie was on the Board of the Monroe County Airport Authority, he served as Vice-Chair of the Board from 2010 to 2014. Also within the years of 2010 to 2014, he was the Chairman of the Greater Rochester Transportation Foundation, on which he had served since 2000.

Bernie joined the St Pius X Legal and Finance Committee in 2018, although his involvement with St Pius X extends much further back, including his time on the Rebuild Committee in 2015. This committee was charged with the demolition of the prior St Pius X church, which was lost to a fire, and the design and construction of a new church at the parish. He also has rejoined the St Ann’s Foundation Board in 2017.

Bernie has stayed deeply connected to his Italian heritage his whole life. He was on the Italian American Community Center board from 1993 to 2001, where he was instrumental in the building process for the new facility that houses the IACC and was the first IACC president to start operations in the new facility. He also received the Businessman of the Year Award from the Order of the Sons of Italy in America in 1999.

When Bernie was not serving on a committee or overseeing his business in past years, he spent much of his time as a youth soccer coach, coaching for twenty-five years with various teams. Most notably, he was the assistant varsity coach of at the Aquinas Institute of Rochester from 2005 to 2013 and a member of the Flower City Soccer League from 1999 to 2012. He has been recognized as the Assistant Coach of the Year for Section V Boys Soccer in 2010 by the Section V Soccer Committee as well as inducted into the Italian American Community Center Sports Hall of Fame as the president of the Flower City Soccer League in 2007.

Bernie has served on various other committees and organizations and feels privileged to be able to give back to places such as Mary’s Place Refugee Outreach Center. In 2016, Bernie received the Mary’s Place Angel Award for his ongoing support of their efforts. He continues to actively support many other organizations throughout the Rochester area and beyond, as well as lend his expertise to anyone in the community who calls on him.
